My name is Katrina T. Carr and I am the mom behind Youth Effect. I live in Billerica, MA with my family as a stay-at-home mom. In addition, I participate in several local community programs and the PTA in my free time. I have two children: a 17-year-old girl named Susan and a 21-year-old girl named Melanie. Along with my husband, I take several vacations together a year with my kids. We are a loving family and we always enjoy our time together. Most recently, we had an amazing vacation at Walt Disney World Resort for the third time.

While raising my own kids over the past two decades, I realized what an unsafe place the internet can be for them. When the internet was in its early stages, it was difficult to make sure my children were visiting age-appropriate websites and weren’t sharing personal information on message boards. Most importantly, I was concerned that they were talking with strangers in chatrooms. Now that my girls are older, I trust their discretion and decision-making skills. They have shown me that they know how to stay safe, no matter what situation they find themselves in.

However, the threat of strangers interacting with younger children on the internet is still very much relevant, especially with the rise of cyberbullying in recent years. That’s why I started this blog. I wanted to share the knowledge I gained while parenting in this digital age, so other parents can learn the best ways to keep their kids safe online. In addition, I want parents to know that because technology has evolved so much in recent years, it’s easier than ever to keep an eye on your children, no matter where you are. Your kids’ safety isn’t the only thing that’s important – so is your peace of mind. I hope that through Youth Effect, I can help both parents and children make responsible decisions on the world wide web.
